Its name is linked both to its intense red color with violet reflections and to a legend that tells of Judas, after dying and having spent that sad time on earth, bitterly regretting betraying Jesus. According to the legend, Jesus, as a sign of forgiveness, resurrected him in flesh and bone in Oltrepò. Recognizing him, the locals decided to kill him for his role in the passion of Christ, but Judas managed to save himself thanks to a gift he gave to the local winemakers, curing the vines from the disease that had affected them. In gratitude, the winemakers dedicated the name of the wine from that area to him, which since then became known as “Sangue di Giuda” (Blood of Judas).
